about

“It’s a call to get to know one another again. To show up in ways that are meaningful. To reach out to the people that seem to be fading away and remember the things that bring us to life.” -The Pairs

Inspired by folks struggling with mental illness. High hopes is about those who are struggling in life and about friends that are no longer with us due to suicide. It’s a call to hold one another up and remember our humanity.

There are things we were taught and things our bodies inherently knew when we were young. There were little bits of courage that took up more space in our lives as kids. It feels as though, in life, so many slowly become more disconnected from our hopefulness, inner wisdom, and the wisdom of the earth. Sometimes we forget what we were taught. We forget to be hopeful. We forget to slow down and look out for one another. We forget to know our worth and potential. But perhaps all it takes is reconnecting with and reminding each other of the little pieces of wisdom and courage we still have inside.

lyrics

Verse 1
Everybody’s talking about keeping heads above water.
I knew someone’s daughter, she pretty much drowned.

PreChorus
I prayed she run out of rope
Before she run out of road
I prayed she run out of rope

Chorus
Call it high hopes
Call it high hopes

Verse 2
He wore a feather in his hat. He can’t remember why.
His father told him that it’s there to help him to fly.

PreChorus:
He prays he runs out of rope
Before he runs out of road
I prayed she run out of rope

Chorus:
Call it high hopes
Call it high hopes

Bridge:
I’m a little worried about lives being hurried.
Why discourage?
Keep those high hopes
Keep those high hopes

Outro:
Don’t you run out
Run out (repeated)
